Based on the electric "Crocodile" or "Alligator" locomotive. Originally built for Swiss Federal Railways from 1919 to 1927, they were developed for pulling heavy goods trains on the steep tracks of the Gotthardbahn from Lucerne to Chiasso, including the Gotthard Tunnel. Crocodile locomotives were so called because of their long noses reminiscent of the snout of a crocodile.
This instruction plan describes the construction of a compact model to run on a Gauge 1 track which can be powered via either a third rail or an overhead catenary system. It was designed by the late Pierre Marais of Johannesburg and the plan has been produced in his memory. The wheels of the twin, articulated power bogies are driven via sprocket and chain from PDU motors, and detailed drawings of the sprung pantographs and catenary masts and rail are included.

Please note these Model Plans are designed by individual Meccano modellers and may use parts not currently available. The level of instruction detail is dependent on the original modeller and varies from plan to plan. These are instructions only.
