These instructions describe the construction of a model based very loosely on photographs of Allchin steam wagons of around 1915 to 1922. This is a model driven by a concealed electric motor and is designed to be built with the contents of a Meccano number 10 set.

1940's Motor Coach

These instructions describe the construction of a model of a finely-detailed model a 1940's motor coach derived from the Midlands Red single-decker bus.

 

The chassis has a 3-speed and reverse gearbox and a working clutch, with differentials on both rear axles, all driven by a PDU motor, and  working gear selector lever, brake pedals and steering.

 

Both interior and exterior are packed with interesting details including hinged driver's,  luggage compartment and passenger doors, the last operated by a lever in the driver's cab.

Airline Scissor Lift Catering Truck

Beavertail Truck with Bi-Fold ramps (Set10+ Model)

These instructions describe the building of a 1:10 scale model, powered by a Meccano Powerdrive motor, with clutch and a 2-speed and reverse gearbox driving the rear axle via a differential, plus working steering. 

 

A power take-off operates a loading winch and and the two-section loading ramps.  The "MAN" style cab tilts forward to provide access to the motor, and the platform centre section lifts off to provide access to the clutch, gearbox and winches.  MP240 (Scissor-Lift Access Platform) makes an ideal load.

Boris's Bus (Set9)

These instructions describe the construction of a model which is considered to be the best and most life-like Set 9 model ever.

 

Named after the Mayor of London who commissioned a new Routemaster which combined the popular open, hop-on hop-off rear platform and stairs of a traditional double-decker bus with the cab, front and side doors and front stairs of a modern bus, with stylish diagonal windows at the back and side, an upstairs front corner branch deflector and distinctive front styling.

 

The model has working steering and suspension, and unlike set bus models has filled-in lower and upper decks with handrails, seat backs and stairs, and a complete driver's cab, seat and binnacle.

Campervan/Microbus

These instructions describe the construction of a very nostalgic subject for the hippie generation of the 1970's, this multi-coloured model of a "Microbus" bears the insignia of The Jesus Movement, eleven long-haired members of which packed themselves into the Microbus and joined the Convoy.

Car and Caravan

These instructions describe the construction of a finely-detailed and realistic model of an open-top car and caravan of the 1950's, which uses the set 10 model 10.29 as a starting point. Radical enhancements to the car include rear seats, a 3-speed and reverse gearbox, rear differential, working clutch and brake pedals and drive by PDU motor. The caravan is redesigned from scratch with folding stabilizer legs and a fully-fitted interior consisting of kitchenette, bed, seats, table and a partitioned-off lavatory with even with such details as curtains, taps, sink waste, cooker knobs and burners, bedside light and toilet roll holder.

Cement Mixer Lorry  (Set10+ Model)

These instructions describe the building of a model based on a typical 1950’s vehicle at a scale of about 1/12thVehicles of this era had cabs of various designs; this has the ERF cab which has a relatively modern appearance.

 

The model requires a modest collection of parts and can be constructed, with a few additions (mainly small flexible plates)  with a Set 10. 

 

Two small 12v motors are used to power the rear axle and the  mixer independently.  The rear axle is based upon the standard Meccano differential. 

 

The design includes a 3-speed and reverse gearbox and clutch based on the model of a saloon car in the Set 10 instructions 10.4 (1949).  The model is constructed in three stages:  chassis, cab and rotating cement mixer.  Both cab and mixer are removable.

Chemical Fire Engine

Coles Hydra 10T Lorry-Mounted Crane

Converted Coach Mobile Home

Demountable Body Tipper Lorry

Booklet of instructions for a model, based on the Renault Midliner with an Edbro demountable body, powered by a Meccano Powerdrive motor protected by an adjustable friction clutch, with a two-speed and reverse gearbox driving an all-pinion differential.The steering is correctly geared and operated with string, while both axles have leaf spring suspension. The hydraulic tipping and sliding mechanism used to tip or unload the body are driven from the motor using cord and screwed rod. The internal gearbox attached to the motor is set at a ratio of 6:1 and operates well on only a 7.2v battery pack. The detachable body has a hinged tailboard that will either drop down for ground level loading or swing upwards for tipping the load. To tip the body, the cord operated twin rams are used and to demount the body, it is moved rearwards first by a screwed rod.

Grab Lorry (Set 10 model)

A fully operational model using a single Meccaon Power Drive motor to raise and lower the crane's two independent booms, slew the crane 1800, and tip the back of the lorry by almost 45.

The stabilising legs are hand-operated.  The road wheels are unpowered and free to turn on stub axles.

Green Goddess  Fire Engine  (Set 9+ Model)

Heavy Recovery Vehicle

Hindle Smart Electric Articulated Lorry (Set 10 model)

These instructions describe the construction of a lorry designed in the 1950's for use where Diesel fumes were unacceptable, many of these small vehicles were used by British Railways to deliver goods in narrow city streets.

 

At 1:9 scale, and built from the contents of a Meccano Set 10, the model features automatic coupling, one-lever uncoupling, prototypical forward and reverse from the motor, and an all-pinion differential.  The piggyback trailer has drop-down sides and removable hinged tailboard.  An extra trailer has a conventional drop-down undercarriage.  Both trailers are fitted with a parking brake.  Uses one Meccano Powerdrive motor.

Optare Solo Midibus (Set 10 model)

These instructions describe the construction of a model of an up-to-date single-deck midibus of unitary construction - no chassis.  The engine is below the rear floor but the main floor is flat and low to allow wheelchairs to be carried.
 

The model can be made from a Meccano 10 set and PDU or Decaperm-sized motor.  With two-speed and reverse gearbox, suspension (front half springs and dummy rear air bags) and steering.  The full interior contains the correct 21+3 tip-up seats and a complete floor.  The flush-fitting twin leaf doors open, close and lock from the driver's position.  Varying the strip and plate colours produces a wide range of liveries

Shelvoke & Drewy Dualdrive Freightlifter  (Set10)

These instructions describe the building of a 1:10 scale model representing an 8-ton heavy-duty forklift truck from the 1950's used in large numbers by British Rail, brickmakers and all 3 armed forces. An additional, rear cab allowed it to be driven at speeds of up to 20mph on public roads with the two sets of controls mechanically linked.  A cab roof level tilt ram was another unusual feature.

 

A single PDU powers forward and reverse drive and up and down mast and mast tilt actions.  The model includes coupled steering control, foot pedals and gear levers in both cabs.

Sliding Bed Car Recovery Truck (Set10 model)

These instructions describe the construction of a 1/10 scale version of a 2001 Ford IVECO truck with a Champion y/i ton slide bed, built as near as Meccano and the restrictions of a Meccano Set10 allow, the only extra being an electric motor. A two speed and reverse gear box is fitted, driving a strong pinion type differential. A power take-off supplies the sliding platform, the tilt and locking mechanism and the loading winch. The sliding platform stops automatically at each end of its travel. The IVECO crew cab is Meccano friendly, being    much    'squarer'   than    its contemporaries. Instructions for a simple van "load" are included, using some of the parts remaining in the set.
